Denny
town Centre regeneration moves ahead
A
big thumbs up for the SNP's plans for the regeneration of
Denny Town Centre was the outcome of a public meeting held
in the town. Almost 100 residents heard the ambitious plans
to regenerate the area neglected for over 30 years by previous
Labour Administrations within Falkirk and left believing
that at last Denny was being taken seriously by council
leaders.
The
plans include a complete re-vamp of the Town Centre including
the demolition of the Church Street and replacement of housing
that has fallen into serious disrepair over many years under
Labour, pedestianisation of the main shopping area, new
retail units including a 25,000 square foot supermarket
and a brand new library.
Speaking
after the meeting local SNP Councillor for the Denny Herbertshire
Ward, John McNally said,
"At
last we are seeing care and attention given to the needs
of the Denny community after 30 years of Labour neglect.
People
are delighted that this project is moving forward and when
you add the regeneration program to the provision of a new
high school at last Denny's needs are being recognised and
acted upon.
Of
course there are still those who will knock the council
but they are becoming increasingly marginalized and being
seen as a bitter cabal of Labour activists more concerned
with their own embarrassment than the real needs of the
community."
The
formal consultation on the regeneration proposals will continue
until the end of August with a start date due in 2007 and
completion by 2009.
