Councillor welcomes Forth Ports £40 million Investment in Grangemouth

Falkirk Council's Depute Convener of Economic Development, Councillor Angus MacDonald has welcomed the announcement by Forth Ports PLC that they will spend £40 million on a new distribution hub at the Port of Grangemouth that will provide a significant new 1million square foot warehousing facility to serve Scotland and the north of England. The new facility, which marks the completion of a significant modernisation and improvement programme at the Port could create 80 jobs and 100 construction jobs.

Over the last two years Forth Ports have also invested £25 million and recruited 65 staff, underlining Grangemouth's position as Scotland's Super-Regional port servicing European, Baltic and worldwide deep sea feeder destinations. Among the investments has been £8.5 million in two new giant Liebherr gantry cranes which were officially unveiled today.

Grangemouth Councillor Angus MacDonald, who attended the official opening commented:-

"The massive investment in the Port of Grangemouth by Forth Ports will ensure that Grangemouth remains the largest port in Scotland for many years to come. Grangemouth's position in the heart of Central Scotland and its close proximity to an excellent road and rail infrastructure provides fast and efficient access for our local firms exporting to Europe, and vice versa. The commitment that Forth Ports have shown to Grangemouth is very much welcomed and bodes well for the future. The coming together of all these exciting initiatives in the town, with yet more to be announced shortly, is proof positive that Grangemouth is a thriving industrial hub with a healthy economic outlook and has a business community operating in a very positive climate".
