Labour
To Deliver £500,000 of Falkirk Council Taxpayers Money
To Landfill

The
incompetence of Labour Councillors in Falkirk Council was
exposed by SNP members when a Labour motion on waste management
was not only defeating but also shown to potentially cost
council taxpayers upwards of £500,000 or a 2% increase
in council tax for all local residents.
Labour
also showed that they had failed to grasp the need for greater
environmental protection and responsible attitudes towards
resources.
In
an attempt to turn the clock back on environmentally friendly
policies Labour members were left with red faces after being
advised by council officials that their motion would cost
Falkirk Council taxpayers upwards of £500,000 per
year. This after Labour claims that unrestricted special
uplifts would be a cost neutral exercise.
Speaking
at the full meeting of Falkirk Council SNP leader, David
Alexander said,
"Under
the SNP the re-cycling of domestic waste has gone from an
inherited position of 6% to a much healthier 36%.
This
has been achieved by a partnership between the council and
the people of Falkirk district who clearly share our concerns
for the environment.
In
addition to being environmentally friendly our policies
are also helping to keep our council tax rate to the second
lowest in Scotland. The high percentage of re-cycled waste
means that we send much less to landfill and the difference
between Labour's 6% and the SNP's 36% represents an annual
saving of £350,000 in Landfill Tax.
Labour
not only demonstrated that they are out of touch with the
people but also showed that they are incapable of managing
the budgets of Falkirk Council in a sensible manner."
