GOVERNMENT'S £2M BOOST FOR FALKIRK DISTRICT'S TOWN
CENTRES
The Scottish Government has just announced that Falkirk
Council will receive £2 million from the Town Centre
Regeneration Fund. The fund was approved in this year's
budget to stimulate the local economy during the economic
down turn and to upgrade many of our local town centres.
Speaking
after hearing the news Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson
MSP said;
"This
is fantastic news for the town centres of Falkirk, Denny
and Stenhousemuir which will all share in the £2 million
allocated to Falkirk Council.
"It
has been a difficult time economically for many of our town
centres, as seen by many of the empty shop units. This money
from the Scottish Government will be welcomed and should
go someway to making these town centres more attractive
to shop in.
"Improvements
will include new signage, public art, public conveniences
and WiFi and some restoration and access improvements in
Falkirk and acquisition of vacant properties, shopfront
improvements and some preparatory infrastructure works in
Denny."
Falkirk
Council SNP Group leader added;
"Any
money which is received from the Scottish Government to
regenerate our local town centres is very welcome and £2
million is a sizeable amount.
"The
SNP Government should be congratulated for having the ambition
and foresight to invest during a recession.
"I'm
sure that the people in Falkirk will notice the difference
in their town centres once the work has been completed."
