Falkirk
Council Win Three Silver Awards Under SNP
The
SNP Administration of Falkirk Council has picked up three
silver awards at for policies and programmes at a recent
ceremony in Edinburgh.
First
up for an award was Falkirk Council's award of the freedom
of Falkirk to Second World Ward veterans. In November 2005
Falkirk became the only local authority in the UK to award
such an honour to war veterans in recognition of the sacrifices
made by that generation.
Falkirk
Council's innovative Litter Strategy was also recognised
as being a leader picking up two silver awards.
Commenting
on the successes council leader, David Alexander said.
"Falkirk
is being recognised as a place for innovation and a place
on the up. It is gratifying that our recognition of those
who fought for our freedom has been acknowledged as well
as our determination to keep our district as clean and litter
free as possible.
There
is a major challenge for us to install the values of the
war generation into modern society. One of these areas is
in the dropping of litter and care for our environment.
Progress is being made on this, the district has gone from
a 66 rating in 2003/04 to a 74 rating in the first half
off 2006 / 07.
Of
course it isn't just about picking up litter its also about
educating people not to drop it and it is therefore gratifying
that one of the awards was for our Education programme."
