Labour MP Ready to Defect To SNP

Front page news that a senior Labour MP is about to defect to the SNP has given the Nationalists a further boost ahead of May's elections.

Speculation is rife as to the identity of the Labour MP but with the decision of the New Labour government to re-new the Trident nuclear weapons system being quoted as the final straw it is a further blow to the dwindling number of socialists who remain within the party.

The SNP has been in talks with several Labour Councillors seeking to defect including one in Falkirk. Already six Labour Councillors have had their application for SNP membership rejected, however, the defection of a Labour MP is something that will send shock waves through Scottish politics.

To date Alex Salmond MP has refused to comment on the meetings between the Labour member and SNP leaders that have taken place in London.
