Falkirk
Exam Results Look To Buck National Trend
Early
indications are that Falkirk youngsters have bucked the
national trend and seen a rise in Standard and Higher passes.
A
the national rate of Standard and Higher passes drops for
the first time in four years Falkirk looks as though it
has bucked the trend by increasing the pass rate throughout
most of Falkirk's schools.
A
highlight of this year's results is Standard Grade English
with more than 90% of the S3 pupils who took the exam getting
a credit pass.
Cllr
Tom Coleman, Convener of Education and Leisure said:
"There
are some great examples across our schools of excellent
achievement and we are very proud of these pupils' performance.
We also recognise how hard schools have worked to support
this success,"
One
major initiative introduced by the SNP has proved to be
a huge success. This session, about 400 pupils sat exams
at the end of S3 in one or two subjects. Of the 165 S3 pupils
who sat Standard Grade English, 151 gained a Credit pass
which is very encouraging for the future as it gives these
pupils two years rather than one to prepare for their Highers.
Cllr
Tom Coleman added: "We would offer our congratulations
to the many hundreds of successful SQA candidates this year
whose hard work and efforts have allowed them to progress
with their educational or vocational ambitions.
We
have shown that we are prepared to think differently in
our desire to drive up standards, give our young people
the best opportunity of a better education and to continually
improve levels of education."
