Offer To Fill In Labour Blanks
After
three months of Labour rule in Falkirk Council with not
one single initiative coming forward from the new Labour/
Independent and Conservative Administration the SNP are
to offer assistance with the development of a Corporate
Plan for the council.
Tuesday
14th sees the return of Falkirk Council's committees with
the powerful Policy and Resources Committee.
Despite
the fact Labour and their Conservative allies have been
in administration for over three months the agenda contains
not one single new policy or initiative.
What
is contained in the agenda is a report to bring forward
a "Corporate Plan" by December 2007. Normally
the corporate plan is the programme for government based
on the ruling groups election manifesto. However, Labour
produced a three page manifesto for the elections in May,
most of which was a negative rant against the SNP.
On
Tuesday the SNP will offer assistance to their Labour colleagues
in the preparation of a policy programme for the next four
years based on the lack of ideas coming forward from within
Labour ranks.
Said
SNP group leader, David Alexander,
"The
comparison between the SNP in Edinburgh and the Labour Administration
in Falkirk can not be more marked.
New
Labour look as though they have been caught in the headlights
in Falkirk Council. There hasn't been one single Labour
initiative in the three months in charge. Instead we have
seen a string of press releases with Labour convenors seeking
to claim credit for the programmes introduced by the SNP.
Now
the challenge to the Labour / Conservative Administration
is to produce a four year programme based on the three pages
of the Labour Party manifesto.
It
is clear that Labour do not have a strategic vision of the
district and so the onus is on the SNP to promote our programmes
such as the regeneration of the district centres and the
development of new schools for our young people.
If
Labour are, as we suspect devoid of direction then I am
more than happy to continue the SNP's programmes within
the district"
