Pledge To Fight Closure of Falkirk Tourist Advice Centre
Falkirk
Council's SNP Councillors have pledged to fight a proposal
to close the Falkirk Town Centre Tourist Advice Centre.
Under
the SNP Falkirk's gross income from tourism rose annually
by 6% yet one of the first proposals from the new Labour
/ Tory Administration is to close the Falkirk Town Centre
Tourist Information office and relocate it to the Falkirk
Wheel.
The
matter will be debated at the first meeting of Falkirk Council's
Environmental and Heritage Committee and will be vigorously
opposed by SNP Councillors.
SNP
Environmental and Heritage spokesperson, Cllr John Constable,
said,
"We
spent six years building up the case for greater opportunities
for the promotion of tourism throughout the entire district
and Labour take four months to begin to dismantle our achievements.
The
Falkirk Wheel is a tremendous asset to tourism promotion
within the district but it must not become the beginning
and end of tourist's experience locally.
We
must take maximum advantage of the opportunities tourisms
gives the local economy and that means brining tourists
into the town centre. If the tourist information centre
in the town centre is closed then less tourists will be
brought into the centre and therefore into Falkirk district's
other attractions."
